Ask Joe

April 20th, 2010

Hi Joe -

I watch pretty much every game and when I see you in the 9th inning to close a very close game I can’t help but think you must get a bit nervous.  Are you pretty tense and/or nervous when you get out there?

Earl

Joe’s Response:

Earl -

Yes, I am nervous but in a good way.  Lots of adrenaline pumping!

Joe

Hi Joe!

What was your most favorite game that you ever have played in while you have been with the Twins?

Cassie B.

Joe’s Response:

Cassie -

The best game I ever played in was Game 163 against Detroit last year.

Thanks for asking!

Joe

Target 2011

March 21st, 2010

“It didn’t go as we had hoped” is how Joe Nathan described his throwing session today.  Nathan and Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson played catch for the first time since Joe left his first Spring Training appearance of 2010 with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow.

Nathan and the Twins hoped rest and conditioning would allow Joe to pitch through his injury but that won’t be the case.  Joe will now undergo “Tommy John” surgery to replace the ligament in his elbow and he plans to be back strong in 2011.

Hurdles

March 15th, 2010

After battling a virus that kept him out of action for the past couple of days, Joe Nathan is looking forward to testing his injured elbow on Saturday.  Nathan will play catch for the first time since leaving his first Spring Training game appearance with what turned out to be a torn ligament in his right elbow.

Rest and Rehab

March 9th, 2010

Joe Nathan was diagnosed with a “significant tear” to a ligament in his pitching elbow.  The repair the injury Nathan would have to undergo Tommy John surgery and miss all of the 2010 season.  Instead, Nathan is planning to rest and rehab the elbow with the hopes of being able to pitch for the Twins this season.

Minne Bound

March 8th, 2010

Joe Nathan flew back to Minnesota Sunday night to have some tests run on his pitching elbow.  Nathan is optimistic the soreness and tightness he is experiencing is part of the recovery process from his off-season surgery but he and the Twins don’t want to take any chances.

Tight Spot

March 6th, 2010

Joe Nathan made his first appearance of Spring Training 2010 today but it didn’t end as expected.  Nathan struck out the first batter he faced but then issued walks to the next two hitters before leaving the game with a tight elbow.
